Meet Aditi Saraf, she has been our client since 2.5 years. In Jan 2017, when we started, she had PCOD, was overweight and because she was facing problems conceiving, the couple was making the rounds through all infertility clinics in town.

5-6 months of eating right & exercising, not only her periods got regular, she lost tonnes of weight too. Click this link to hear her talk in the throwback video that we had published in 2017.

Though both me and her were happy with the way she was progressing with each passing month/year, yet the pressure on her was mounting, both from her family and her doctor who kept persuading her to go for IVF. “It is not going to happen naturally”, they insisted. “Yeh lifestyle se kya hoga. Does your nutritionist know more than the doctor?! “- conversations like these became commonplace at her home. Yet she stayed strong and with faith, patience and compassion towards her own self, she walked the path of consistency and discipline.

And then, one fine day, it just happened-Without any treatment, any pills, any medicines. A natural pregnancy. Aditi is currently 6 months pregnant and happy. From “kaise hoga?” the conversations at her home has changed to “Yeh toh kamaal ho gaya”😀

The transformational journey of Annapurna Sharma is more than what the pictures depict. Though struggling with health issues (endometriosis, hormonal imbalance, surgery, bloating, depression) for 20 years, she has been able to quit her medicines, embrace a healthier lifestyle and come out stronger, fitter and healthier. Losing weight has been just a by product, as we say!

Body Transformation: Annapurna Sharma

Not only did she lose tonnes of inches and dropped few sizes during the program, her skin now glows, she goes for treks to the Himalayas and is living life to the fullest- A natural consequence of eating right and not “avoiding” foods, structured exercising and not just “mindless” walks, being consistent and not going “on” and “off” the plan.

Real change happens bit by bit. It takes great effort to become effortless at anything. There are no quick fixes. But at the end of it, is freedom- from low self esteem, pills, dullness and fatigue; and a feeling that you have finally arrived to conquer like a queen and stay at the top. And for Annapurna, it happened quite literally. Her picture at Bhrigu lake reached after trekking an altitude of 14,000 feet is a proof of that!

These pictures talk about Aditi Saraf‘s journey to weight loss and fitness. Once struggling with PCOD/ PCOS, she showed immense courage in giving lifestyle a fair chance instead of popping pills prescribed by her doctors.

When her doc suggested her to embark on a “zero fat” diet, she instead gorged on ghee laden laddoos fearlessly. When skipping meals so as to eat lesser seemed like a norm, she bravely chose to nurture her appetite and eat every 2-3 hours. When all that she heard was that walking is the best weight loss exercise, she learnt with an open mind that for hormonal balance, a complete, structured workout plan is required. Needless to say, while pushing and pulling weights, she soon became an inspiration for all the other women at her gym 🙂

The result of her consistent efforts is a much confident Aditi who has lost 10 inches, is free from menstrual pains, and most importantly is happy & content. Proud of you girl!

Panchali Baishya was this typical teenager eating out almost every day. Then one day like a bolt out of the blue, it hit her that she had gotten seriously out of shape.

We started with the small step of cutting down on eating out, limiting it to once a week. This single step snowballed into a series of other steps — working out, sleeping on time, eating on time. She never bothered stepping on the scale but only on stepping up her efforts.

A journey that started from 75 kgs to her current 59kgs over 2 years. It’s a journey from eating out all the time to once a week, not working out to pushing over 250lbs on the leg press, from huffing and puffing on the treadmill to running 2 kms in 20 mins. A journey from void to being full of life, “no time” to making time, oversized tees to well fitted tops, tons of weight lost but that’s not the point, the point is she found herself!

The pics don’t quite tell you about how frustrating & scary it can get to actually start putting yourself first. About how you need to cajole your mind to start working out, about fighting diabetes at such a tender age, about emerging as a winner when you not only lose around more than 10kgs but also get rid of your diabetic pills.

It doesn’t tell what it takes to carry the burden of self doubt & low self esteem in spite of being a successful entrepreneur , what it takes to rise above all of that to practice self love and be confident & happy. Nor does it tell you that your friends and people around who you inspire today were the very ones who made you feel “big & tall” a year back.

It doesn’t capture the bravado it takes to eat mangoes, rice and egg yolks — the struggle to relish these when the whole world smirks in judgement. The pics also don’t capture the joy, the fulfillment of finding oneself, eating practically, pushing weights, running or simply the magic of compliments that you are busy collecting.

But still they tell a story, the story that we all need to hear, that we are only just one step away from eating on time, working out and having a disciplined lifestyle. That life is truly simple, even if we go out of our way to complicate it. Well done Neena, you have inspired each one of us!!

Baani Kaur was this typical architect girl with erratic work nature that made her shuttle between Guwahati-Delhi-Ludhiana and an even more erratic sleeping pattern. My meeting with her at one of my seminars is what she describes as ‘life changing’.

It’s one thing to lose 6 kgs in a span of just 2 months and being able to maintain it for more than a year keeping all the travelling in mind but an altogether different ball game to call it ‘life changing’. It’s about moving beyond the number game. It’s about the calm that comes from the fact that you are no longer struggling to sleep till dawn but are sleeping just on time every night to wake up fresh & energetic in the morning. It’s about feeling amused when people around tell you that you could not have done this by eating rice, ghee & banana, that there’s something you are hiding and that its OK to tell 🙂

Body Transformation: Baani KaurIt’s about the joy that comes from the fact that you no longer experience severe ‘menstrual cramps’ that you had sub consciously accepted & feared every month. It’s about taking immense pride that you are taking to exercise more than willingly when even the thought of it made you feel lazy & drained out. It’s about having the wisdom to be able to fearlessly nurture your appetite when you see the world around you going out of the way to suppress theirs.

And finally its about being aware that its not the number on the weighing scale or the size of the LBD that changes one’s life but it takes much more than that to call meeting someone as ‘life changing’.

The story in pics, a story that each of us needs to hear, that we are just a step away from our fitter selves. A story that teaches us to celebrate the fat loss process, the journey and not the “arrival” and that tells us that as we move down sizes, we should jump in joy punching our fist in the air instead of sulking saying ” dilli abhi door hai”.

This story is of Ravdeep Singh, easily one of the favourites of my paathshala. I met him in 2012 at the gym that I had then recently joined as “Weight Loss” consultant (the management said ” Weight Loss” sounds more attractive than “Getting Fit” though I firmly believe in the latter). Even after years of working out religiously & ‘trying out’ everything at the gym but not getting results, an angry & frustrated Ravdeep was sent to me as the last resort to retain a ‘ well meaning’ client.

So this is how the journey started. A journey that started from frustation to content, peace and happiness. A journey that started from 93 kgs to 81 kgs in 6 months time & still maintaining it for 3 years, a journey from a diet of soups, salads & all the food that was alien to his region, religion and liking to a diet of parathas, pinnis (traditional punjabi ladoos), coconut & everything that he loved but feared eating.

Body Transformation: Ravdeep SinghIt’s a journey of awareness that you don’t ‘have to’ workout because you eat but instead eating food enables you to workout. It’s a journey of joy & fulfilment when you see yourself pushing more weights at the gym & running even faster on the treadmill. It’s a journey of leading life with a sense of responsibility towards the body, about being disciplined so that you always feel free and not trapped inside your body. It’s a journey of courage, grit & determination, a journey that goes beyond the number on the scale. Will you embark on one?
